If
you only have a short time in Helsinki but still want to visit a
museum in this city, I could recommend this 2 great museums.
Basically Helsinki has dozens of museums waiting for you to visit.
I
was so amazed about their dedication in keeping the history,
knowledge and treasures in a perfect way. You probably will skip this
post cause you think you are not into museum? But wait till you are
in Helsinki, it will change you!
KIASMA
MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
Located
in a central of the city, not far from the Helsinki Central Station,
you will notice immediately the beautiful well designed building with
curves and sharp angles.
Kiasma
museum is one of the most famous in Helsinki and I think it deserves
its name, either you are into architecture and interior design or not
you should make the time to see this one as it is a well known
Stephen Holl design.
Once
you arrived in the corridor, dont expect a boring and straight
corridors, everything tilts up down.
This
museum has some incredible works of modern art and there is 5 floors
to explore, each of the floor has a different exhibitions and
collections. I spent quite sometimes in here, the galleries are
spacious so I dont have to avoid or get annoyed by the crowds.
Furthermore
I was so lucky could experience the amazing Mapplethorpe progressive
collections. His work is exciting and surprising, fitted well with
the other permanent collections.

NATIONAL
MUSEUM OF FINLAND
Another
piece of Helsinki's beautiful architecture is the National Museum of
Finland, at glance I believe I was looking to a church and its tower.
There
are wonderful ceiling paintings by Akseli Gallen-Kallela in the hall,
you will directly notice it and will admire the beauty of it. When I
was there, seems like there will be an event or sort of dinner party,
so beautiful table setting inside the room.
One
thing I love about national museum is that they always give you an
insight into a history of the country that no book can give you, as
this National
Museum of Finland featuring permanent
exhibitions
that showcase a
different time period of
the Finnish nation, from prehistoric times to the present day.
Every
different part of the museum represents:
1. The
Treasure Troves,
2. Prehistory
of Finland
3. The
Realm
4. A
Land and its People
5.
The Past Century
6. Workshop
VINTTI
The bullet holes in the glass door and in the front door are from civil war 1918 |
There
are many interesting archaeological artifacts, paintings, sculptures,
jewelry, royalty clothes and armory to keep you walking around the
museum for ages. The guide texts besides the exponents are very
informative.
