Wine Tasting During Sunset in Santorini 

People might not know that Greece could make such great wines and the fact that wine of Santorini are special because the vines are grown in the rich and fertile volcanic soil. You will see the different between Europe vines whose parallel upright lines, those on the Santorini are by necessity trained to form wreath like bushes and the plants rarely exceed a meter in height and sprawl weed like in the ashen soil. I hardly recognized that those plants are vines.

Wine making on Santorini is part of its culture that began about 3000 B.C. helped by great environmental conditions, and because of that interesting history we wont missed any opportunity to visit some of the winery and do the wine tasting.

On our last day in Santorini we decided to go to Santo Wines, one of very famous winery in Santorini. Santo Wines located in the traditional Santorini village of Pyrgos , stuated on the top of the caldera cliff, with a magnificent view of Santorini’s volcano and the Aegean Sea, no doubt this place is one of the best place to enjoy the spectacular sunset of Santorini.

From the menu book, we have chosen the option with 12 glasses of wines that comes with some of generous portion of cheese ,dry tomatoes, olives and dry bread. As we thought the wine tasting will served in a small size of glass however our thought was absolutely wrong, Santo Wine is very generous with everything, a big glass of wine and full, doesn't feel like we are on wine tasting though.

It starts with the driest wine and finish with the sweetest which is the santo wine typical sweet wine called Vinsanto, that s the way how we enjoyed our wine. We sat in the charming terrace overlooking the caldera and waiting for the sunset. Unfortunately, that was our last sunset in Santorini but that being said this place is a must stop just for the views alone if you are in Santorini and we would definitely come back one day.
